Question
How can I take a backup of the Virtual Server in my Cloud.net environment?
Environment
Cloud.net, all versions.
Answer
You can take backups manually or automatically.
-
Manually - the user logs into OnApp CP and clicks the “Take backup” button when required.
- Automatically - the user enables the backup schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly)
OnApp allows you to create two backup types: normal and incremental.
Normal backup - backups are created per disk
Incremental backup - backups are created per virtual server.
To take a manual incremental backup (Linux Virtual Servers):
- Go to your Control Panel > Cloud > Virtual Servers menu.
- Click the label of the server you want to back up.
- Click the Backups tab, then select Files.
- To take a backup, click the Take a Backup button.
To take a manual normal backup of the virtual server's disk (Windows Virtual Servers):
- Go to your Control Panel > Cloud > Virtual Servers menu.
- Click the label of the server you want to back up.
- Click the Storage tab > Disks. You'll see a list of the disks allocated to that virtual server.
- Click the Actions icon next to a disk you want to take a backup of, then click Backup.
To quickly enable an incremental automatic backup schedule by applying pre-configured auto-backup presets:
- Go to your Control Panel > Cloud > Virtual Servers menu.
- Click the label of the virtual server you're interested in.
- Find the option "Auto-backups" and move the slider to enable automatic backups for this VS
- Select Backups > Schedules tab to make sure the schedules were created.
- Click the Edit icon next to a schedule to change its details.
To quickly enable a normal automatic backup schedule by applying pre-configured auto-backup presets:
- Go to your Control Panel > Cloud > Virtual Servers menu.
- Click the label of the virtual server you want to schedule a backup for.
- Click the Storage tab, then select Disks.
- On the screen that appears, under "Auto Backups?" move the slider to enable automatic backups for the disk you want to backup up.
- Click the Actions button next to this disk, then select Schedule for Backups.
- Click the Edit icon next to a schedule to change its details
